Job Purpose

The Student Fees and funding Officer is responsible for providing specialist support and guidance to students regarding tuition fee funding and financial support. The role focuses on funding verification, case management, student advice, and ensuring student finance records are accurate and up to date.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Guidance

• Provide professional guidance to students regarding tuition fee funding, eligibility, and available financial support.

• Support students in understanding funding requirements, evidence submission requirements, and application timelines.

• Respond to student finance enquiries and provide timely resolutions.

• Deliver a high standard of customer service throughout the student journey.

Funding Verification & Administration

• Review and verify student funding evidence in accordance with regulatory requirements.

• Process funding-related documentation accurately and efficiently.

• Monitor funding statuses and follow up on pending or unresolved cases.

• Maintain accurate and complete student finance records and case notes.

Case Management

• Manage a portfolio of student finance cases from application through to resolution.

• Assist students with funding-related issues, including evidence queries, eligibility concerns, and routine appeals.

• Escalate complex, exceptional, or high-risk cases to the Student Finance Manager where appropriate.

• Liaise with relevant stakeholders to resolve student queries.

Compliance & Data Quality

• Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with institutional procedures and funding regulations.

• Support audit requests by maintaining accurate records and documentation.

• Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR and data protection requirements.

THE ROLE

Purpose of the Role

The App Developer will develop, release and support the UKMC Career App alongside the Career App Lead Developer, ensuring that new programmes, cohorts and campuses are brought onto the service reliably as it grows.

The postholder will also contribute to the next stage of the app's development: artificial intelligence built on the app's own data, including agentic AI assistants for students and staff, the matching of students to jobs and skills, and machine learning models that identify at an early-stage students who may need additional support.

The role spans the mobile application, the server and the live cloud service, and requires the handling of student data to a high standard of care and confidentiality.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of the Career App and its AI features and will work closely with the Career App Lead Developer, Course Directors, Personal Academic Tutors, the Wellbeing team, Registry and Academic Services and the IT Department.

THE ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

The postholder will:

• Design, develop and maintain new features across the mobile application (React Native and TypeScript) and the server (Python and Django) in accordance with agreed specifications, coding standards and release timelines.
• Design, implement and evaluate AI features, including agentic AI workflows using large language models, applying appropriate tool use, retrieval and safeguards.
• Prepare and curate data, and train, evaluate and monitor machine learning models, including job and skills matching and the early identification of students who may require additional support.
• Diagnose and resolve reported defects and incidents, and continually improve the performance, accessibility, security and reliability of the service.
• Produce automated tests and clear technical documentation, participate in peer code review and adhere to the College's release and change management process.
• Prepare and publish releases to Android and iOS through the App Store and Google Play, including test builds for staff and students.
• Prepare, validate and load programme content and student data for new cohorts, programmes and campuses, and configure staff access and permissions.
• Support the deployment, monitoring and operational resilience of the live service on Microsoft Azure.
• Process student personal data, including within AI features, in full compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the College's data protection and information security policies.
• Provide training, onboarding and user support to staff and students across the College's campuses and contribute to user guidance and communications.
• Work collaboratively with the Career App Lead Developer, Course Directors, Personal Academic Tutors, the Wellbeing team, Registry and Academic Services and the IT Department, and contribute to planning, prioritisation and reporting on the development of the service.
• Undertake such other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post, as may reasonably be required by the Career App Lead Developer.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate must have:

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or a closely related subject.
• Demonstrable experience of building and releasing mobile applications to Android and iOS.
• Demonstrable experience of building web APIs with Python and Django, or a comparable framework, on a relational database such as PostgreSQL.
• Practical experience of artificial intelligence and machine learning, including building agentic AI applications with large language models and training and evaluating machine learning models.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

The following would be advantageous:

• A postgraduate qualification in artificial intelligence, machine learning or data science.
• Experience of supporting a live service with real users, ideally in the education sector or involving student data.

To deliver an efficient, accurate and well-controlled purchase-to-pay service for the organisation, combining responsibility for the Accounts Payable function with the coordination of procurement and purchasing activity. The postholder will ensure that goods and services are sourced compliantly and achieve value for money, and that supplier invoices and payments are processed accurately, on time and in line with the organisation’s financial regulations and controls.

The role will act as the first point of contact for purchasing and supplier payment matters, working closely with budget holders, internal departments, suppliers and the wider Finance Team to maintain accurate financial records, strong supplier relationships and a high level of service to stakeholders.

• Act as the first point of contact for purchasing queries, advising budget holders on the organisation’s procurement policy, financial regulations and approval thresholds.

• Obtain and evaluate quotations in line with procurement thresholds, comparing price, quality, delivery and service to support value-for-money purchasing decisions.
• Support tender exercises for higher-value purchases, including helping to prepare specifications and tender documents, issuing requests for quotation, coordinating evaluations and keeping a clear record of the process.
• Carry out due diligence on new suppliers before approval, including checks on financial standing, insurance, data protection and modern slavery compliance as appropriate.

About the role

Working within Student Engagement and Career Development, alongside the Centre for Career Development, Enterprise and Innovation, you will deliver practical careers advice and employability activities, develop employer relationships and help ensure that students across all campuses can access relevant support.

You will work closely with the Student Engagement and Career Development Manager, Personal Academic Tutors, Course Directors, course teams and other College colleagues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and group support on career planning, CVs, job applications, interview preparation, networking, LinkedIn and transferable skills.
• Help students explore career pathways linked to their courses and provide accessible information suited to mature learners and students facing barriers to education or employment.
• Run drop-in sessions and bookable appointments across campuses, and follow up referrals from Personal Academic Tutors and course teams.
• Plan and deliver careers activity across the College, including Careers Week, employer talks and panels, sector events, graduation and celebration activities, and events for Foundation Year students.
• Work with academic teams, Personal Academic Tutors, Wellbeing and EDI colleagues and the Student Association to make careers activity relevant and accessible to students.
• Build and maintain relationships with employers, community organisations and alumni to create opportunities such as placements, work experience, insight visits, guest speakers, live briefs and mentoring.
• Prepare students for placements and work experience, support required insurance, health and safety and safeguarding checks, and monitor progress with students and employers.
• Support student enterprise and mentoring programmes, including recruiting and matching mentors, inducting participants, coordinating activity and collecting feedback.
• Maintain careers information on the College website and student app, and develop practical resources such as guides, templates, recorded sessions and course-specific career maps.
• Provide Personal Academic Tutors with careers resources and briefings they can use with their students.
