New Students: Initial Steps

If you have recently joined UK Management College, please ensure you have completed the following steps:

  • Attend your Induction Session
  • Check your Timetable via the Student Portal (EBS)
  • Look out for the Welcome Email from your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT)
  • Ensure you can access your Student Systems (EBS, Canvas, Blackboard, eVision or MyRecord)

If you experience any issues during your first weeks, please contact the Academic Office.

Your Responsibilities as a Student

To help UKMC support you effectively, students are expected to:

  • Attend scheduled teaching sessions, tutorials, workshops and mandatory meetings.
  • Engage with learning activities, class discussions, group tasks and online learning materials.
  • Complete both UKMC and partner university registration requirements.
  • Check their student email account regularly.
  • Keep personal and contact details up to date.
  • Tell their PAT or Academic Office as early as possible if they are experiencing difficulties.
  • Submit evidence where required for any request or application.
  • Follow UKMC and partner university policies and procedures.
  • Apply for Student Finance on time, unless they are self-funded.

Keeping in contact with UKMC and engaging early with support can help prevent delays with registration, attendance, timetables, finance, progression or other study-related matters.

Personal Academic Tutor (PAT)

Your Personal Academic Tutor (PAT) is your main academic contact throughout your studies.

Your PAT supports you with:

  • Academic progress
  • Attendance guidance
  • Study advice
  • General academic support

Your PAT works closely with your teaching team, including Module Leaders and Course Directors, to ensure you receive consistent academic support throughout your studies.

How do I find my PAT?

At the start of the semester:

  • Your PAT will send a welcome email introducing themselves
  • You may see your PAT during classes or support sessions
  • You can ask your lecturer if you are unsure who your PAT is If you are still unsure, please contact the Academic Office.
Attendance & Engagement

UKMC supports students to engage consistently with their studies. Regular attendance is important for academic success, and support is available if you are experiencing difficulties.

What happens if my attendance drops?

Where attendance or engagement becomes a concern, students may be contacted by the teaching team, PAT or Academic Office so that appropriate support and guidance can be discussed.

If attendance falls below the required level, the following process may take place:

  • Attendance warning notification
  • Continued monitoring
  • Case management meeting
  • Possible withdrawal if engagement does not improve

If you are struggling to attend classes, please contact your PAT as early as possible.

Attendance, Engagement and Learning Materials

Students are expected to attend their scheduled classes and engage regularly with their course. Lecture and seminar materials are normally made available through the relevant Virtual Learning Environment, such as Blackboard or Canvas.

Students are expected to access their online learning materials weekly. Engagement information may be reviewed to help identify where students may benefit from additional academic or pastoral support.

If you are unable to attend or are finding it difficult to engage with your studies, please inform your PAT or the Academic Office as early as possible so that appropriate support can be considered.

Early Support if You Are Falling Behind

Students are encouraged to ask for help as early as possible if they are finding it difficult to attend, complete work, access systems or keep up with their studies.

You should contact your PAT or the Academic Office if you:

  • Are missing classes or struggling to attend regularly.
  • Have received an attendance warning.
  • Cannot access your timetable, EBS, Canvas, eVision, MyRecord or Blackboard.
  • Are struggling with assessments, deadlines or study workload.
  • Have personal, health, family or financial issues affecting your studies.
  • Are thinking about taking a break from study or withdrawing.
  • Are unsure whether your registration is complete.

Early support can help you understand your options and reduce the risk of your studies being affected.

Where can I find my timetable?

Your timetable will be shared by the Academic Office before the start of the semester and will also be available through your student portal (EBS).

Can I change my timetable?

Timetable changes depend on:

  • Availability in another group
  • Operational capacity

Students should contact the Academic Office to request a change.
