Professor Jason Powell

As Interim CEO of UKMC, Professor Powell provides overall strategic leadership and direction for the College. His role involves setting UKMC's strategic priorities; overseeing academic standards, quality assurance and teaching and learning; guiding the College's operational and financial performance; strengthening partnerships with awarding bodies and stakeholders; enhancing the student experience; supporting the continuing professional development of all staff; and ensuring regulatory compliance across UKMC's entire provision. He is a values-based leader who operates with the highest level of integrity, guided in all he does by an unflinching code of professional ethics.

Professor Powell has an outstanding track record of academic senior leadership roles.

Latterly, he was President and CEO of the Manchester Institute of Learning and Excellence after serving as Provost and Chief Academic Officer. He was also Pro Vice-Chancellor of Crown University International, and Provost and Chief Academic Officer of Crescent College Birmingham. Formerly, he held posts as Dean, Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor, Director of Admissions and held Full Professor roles at leading Russell Group and post-92 Universities.

Professor Powell has a strong record of distinctions. For example, he has several hundred publications including dozens of academic books. He has led 52 research and knowledge exchange projects worth £6.1 million. He is ranked #1 for Health and Social Care and Age citations by global peers (Google Scholar). AD Scientific ranks him 3rd in the EU and 9th in the world for Sociology citations/H-Index.

He is one of seven elected Companions of Society of Bereavement Practitioners; Winner of 2022 Best Researcher of the Year and Winner of 2023 Excellence Service Award (INSO). He is a former Winner of Best Article of Year, Emerald Literati Award. He was recently awarded two Honorary Doctorates in relation to his outstanding contribution to understanding global ageing.

Internationally, he holds honorary Professor posts. He is Adjunct Professor, McMaster University; Adjunct Professor, Gandaki University; Distinguished Professor, CUICI; and Distinguished Honorary Professor, MSU. He is Honorary Fellow, University of Liverpool. He has been Honorary Director, Tsinghua University, Visiting Research Scholar, Harvard University and Visiting Research Fellow, University of Oxford.
