UKMC Dean Delivers Expert Training at the University of Manchester on AI-Supported Thematic Analysis

We are delighted to share that Dr Muhammad Naeem, Dean of UK Management College (UKMC), was invited by the University of Manchester to deliver a research training workshop on Monday, 9th June 2025, as part of the university’s Global Research Capacity Building Programme.

The training was centered on Dr Naeem’s latest academic contribution: Thematic Analysis and Artificial Intelligence: A Step-by-Step Process for Using ChatGPT in Thematic Analysis published in the International Journal of Qualitative Methods.

Hosted by the Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry Unit, the workshop was attended by researchers, academics, and clinicians. Participants were introduced to a six-stage AI-assisted thematic analysis framework using anonymised qualitative datasets, which they analysed live using structured prompts and ChatGPT. The method, grounded in social constructionist principles, was applied to a case study exploring postnatal depression among South Asian immigrant mothers in the UK.

This training was part of the University of Manchester’s global efforts to build research capacity across disciplines. Dr Naeem’s hands-on approach provided attendees with practical tools to carry out rigorous qualitative analysis using emerging AI technologies.

UKMC is proud to see our Dean contributing to the advancement of qualitative research and AI integration at an international level. We remain committed to excellence in research, pedagogy, and thought leadership.
