Supporting Wellbeing Across Staff and Students at UKMC

Throughout April, UKMC marked Stress Awareness Month with a series of dedicated activities for both students and staff, recognising the importance of wellbeing across the entire college community.

For students, the focus was on creating an open and approachable environment where conversations around stress felt natural rather than formal. Activities across campus encouraged students to take a step back from academic pressures, engage with wellbeing resources and speak directly with staff in a relaxed setting. The response was strong, with many students taking the opportunity to reflect, ask questions and connect. These interactions highlighted the value of simply being present and accessible during what can often be a demanding period.

Alongside this, a dedicated session was delivered for staff, featuring guest speaker Sonny Ferretti, who shared valuable insights on the importance of wellbeing in the workplace. The session provided an opportunity to pause, reflect and consider practical ways to recognise the difference between stress and burnout, and manage both effectively within a busy working environment. It also reinforced the importance of supporting one another, helping to strengthen a culture where wellbeing is recognised as a shared responsibility.

Taken together, these activities reflected a joined-up approach to wellbeing at UKMC. By addressing the needs of both students and staff in parallel, the month went beyond awareness and focused on meaningful engagement. It underlined the importance of connection, visibility and support across all levels of the college, ensuring that wellbeing remains a consistent and visible priority.
