UK Management College marked a defining milestone with its first ever Careers Fair, a landmark event that brought together employers, civic leaders, entrepreneurs and inspirational speakers under one roof. From the outset, the energy across campus signalled something significant. This was not simply a careers event, but a statement of intent about the future of UKMC students and their place within Greater Manchester’s professional landscape.
To ensure inclusivity and strong student participation, transportation was arranged from the Abarna and College House campuses. The result was a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere that reflected the very values the day aimed to promote: teamwork, ambition and opportunity.
At the heart of the day were meaningful employer student conversations. A diverse group of organisations engaged directly with students, including NHS England, Manchester City Council, Salford City Council, KPMG, alongside 5 Valleys Physio, Aecom, Empire Group, Kids Planet Salford, Kids Planet Salford Keys, Leo Recruits Ltd, Wellway Rehab Solutions, WorkWell Salford, XPS, Pai Muneeb Travels, and representatives from UKMC’s Business Development and HR teams.
Employers showcased graduate pathways, placements and early career opportunities, while also building long term recruitment relationships with the College. UKMC also welcomed students who are business owners or active in family run enterprises, recognising that lived experience and entrepreneurship are powerful forms of professional learning.
The Main Stage programme opened with a keynote from Martin Ainscough, High Sheriff of Greater Manchester, who set the tone with reflections on enterprise, leadership and civic responsibility. His address framed the day around contribution, not only building careers, but strengthening communities.
This theme continued through three focused panel discussions. Building and Growing in Greater Manchester explored entrepreneurship, local opportunity pathways and the realities of scaling businesses. Skills That Progress Careers examined leadership, confidence and how academic study translates into professional advancement. Inclusive Workplaces, Stronger Organisations highlighted how diversity, resilience and representation drive long term performance.
Chaired by senior UKMC academic leaders, the panels brought together regional policymakers, employers and student voices, creating discussions that were both strategic and grounded in real world experience.
Momentum continued with powerful guest appearances from Olympic medallist Chelsie Giles and two sport Paralympian Darren Harris. Their personal stories of resilience, discipline and overcoming adversity resonated strongly with students navigating their own professional journeys. The message was clear. Success is rarely linear, but perseverance builds possibility.
Beyond the main stage, the Fair was deliberately practical. Interactive workshops on Resilience, Critical Thinking and Reflective Practice and Leadership, Teamwork and Problem Solving equipped students with essential employability tools. A live CV drop in clinic provided tailored guidance, while the Mock Interview Competition gave participants real time experience and constructive employer feedback, bridging the gap between theory and application.
This inaugural Careers Fair reflects the wider vision championed by UKMC’s CEO, Md Zahidul Islam, whose continued emphasis on employer engagement and student progression is shaping the College’s strategic direction.
More than attendance numbers or programme highlights, the true success of the day was found in the conversations taking place across the room, business cards exchanged, advice shared and confidence built. For many students, it was the first direct step into their professional future.
As a first Careers Fair, it set a powerful benchmark. It demonstrated that UKMC is not only educating students, but actively building pathways for them. This was not simply an event to remember. It was the beginning of a tradition that will continue to grow in scale, impact and ambition.
